Start Time: 19th September 2008

Training Diary

I have recognised the specialist support and advice required to get me to the start line in the right shape to make a meaningful challenge at the existing world record of 81 hours and 5 minutes. I have therefore surrounded himself with specialist coaches and an amazingly supportive group of friends and family. My physical coaching is the responsibility of British Olympic and Commonwealth triathlete Marc Jenkins. Event logistics and swim coaching is provided by the current Arch to Arc world record holder and event organiser, Edgar Ette.

With the Artemis Arch to Arc Challenge starting sometime between September 21st and 27th 2008, a one year training program has been outlined. On average, I spend in excess of 16 hours a week training in my free time outside my work and family life.

Training time is, in general, spent 50% swimming, 25% running, 20% biking and 5% x-training. Additionally, during the year I plan to complete a number of key events that will serve as markers to his progress, both physically and mentally. These events include, amongst others, the Snowdonia Marathon (completed in October 2007); the Zurich Marathon swim; the mid Wales ultra-triathlon; the Artemis Great Kindrochit Quadrathlon; the Artemis Highland 100; and the Tusk Safaricom Marathon around the Lewa Game Reserve in Kenya. Motivation

My motivation for endurance racing is fuelled by my stubbornness and a belief that with hard work, focus and a willingness to suffer, I can achieve my goals. Read more.
